As the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams approach, Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has affirmed that the department is well prepared for this pivotal assessment period. The exams are set to take place from 21 October to 27 November, with immediate marking to follow. Given the rise in enrolled candidates to 732,448, the department has focused on ensuring that both learners and the examination systems are adequately prepared. Gwarube highlighted the importance of readiness, stating that extensive work has been undertaken to facilitate a seamless exam experience.
The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have been significant for the current cohort of learners, who faced numerous challenges during their academic journey. However, interventions like the Learning Recovery Programme, along with resources tailored for learners, have been introduced to overcome these setbacks. The support not only addresses previous gaps in content but also aims to ensure that candidates are well-equipped for their upcoming exams.
With 6909 examination centres across the nation and a total of 162 question papers approved for the exams, the department is optimistic about delivering a successful examination period. The results of these exams will be announced on 16 January 2025, with the Minister personally revealing them a day earlier.
